Your Aromatherapy, Issue #003 -- An Unusual Oil and a Whipped Treat! February 04, 2017 |
Turmeric Essential OilI'm always on the look-out for different, and sometimes the more unusual essential oils, for using in aromatherapy massage with my clients, or for adding something special to my natural skincare products..... During the past year I've been hearing a lot about all the magical benefits of turmeric, and as a result I have started taking it on a daily basis - I love it in my morning drink of 'Hot Lemon & Honey'! So then I thought.....what about Turmeric essential oil? It must be packed full of wonderful benefits too....and of course that is actually what I discovered. So now it is a staple in my essential oil box for both aromatherapy massage - it is fantastic for tired muscles - and in the formulation of my natural skincare products - is this the key to the 'Fountain of Youth'? Find out more about Turmeric Essential Oil here. Sunflower OilThis seems to be a forgotten and often overlooked oil - the humble sunflower oil - and yet it has so many therapeutic benefits for both your overall health and skin health.
It contains an abundance of minerals and vitamins, and its antioxidant properties help the fight against wrinkles.
I often use this oil, as part of a blend, when formulating my natural skincare products, as it is so nourishing for the skin.
When used as part of an aromatherapy massage blend, it can help with skin healing, bruising and arthritis......sounds like a wonder oil to me! Discover more benefits and uses of sunflower oil here It's Winter - Whip Yourself Up a Treat! This is the time of the year when your skin can take a real beating from the harsh, dry and cold weather....skin may become dehydrated and lose moisture making it look dull and lacklustre.
So, how about treating your body to a whipped body butter to nourish your skin and lift your spirits. Great to use after a bath or shower, it is both easy and fun to make!
Whipped Winter Wonder Butter 50g shea butter 50g mango butter 25g sunflower oil 15 drops grapefruit essential oil 10 drops lavender essential oil 10 drops frankincense oil
Make sure all your ingredients are at room temperature and quite soft. Put the shea and mango butters in a large bowl and whisk with an electric hand whisk. When they are soft, add the sunflower oil and whisk again. Finally, add the essential oils and whisk until you reach a consistency that you like. Don't worry if there are a few small lumps - they will melt on contact with your skin. Spoon the butter into a pretty sterilised jar and use as required.....voila!
